Draft

Getting Designs Print-Ready

  • consistency - is the spacing consistent and intentional, are stroke thicknesses consistent (where they should be I know this one has that intentional difference between the two places)

  • spell check.

  • imagery - are the crops nice? are images inside of masks filling that mask? do the photos need any photoshopping/editing? are the images high enough quality on something this big?

  • delivery - is everything packaged in a PDF with imagery and fonts? is that package clearly labeled, are we following the instructions provided or industry standard? I like to keep one version with the live text but often it is a good idea to have a version with outlined text.

  • color check - make sure we are using the actual brand colors and everything is in the correct color mode.

Lessons Learned in Printer Specifications:

  • Consult with the printers to determine their preferred bleed size and whether they require crop marks.

  • Black and white images for print should be saved as grayscale, not CMYK.

  • When printing text on a colored background, check if the printer would like overprint fill to be turned on.

  • When designing with black discuss with the printer if they can produce a rich black (CMYK) or if they only print a K value.
